The only thing you have to book yourself is your accomodation in Reykjavík before and after your round trip. Please note that the transfer to and from Keflavik airport is not included in the price of the tour. We recommend our
Airport Express transfer service, which can be added to the package.
Itinerary
Day 1. The West and the Snæfellsnes peninsula
Places of interest: The lovely Borgarfjörður district starting with Borgarnes village – the site of one of the most popular Icelandic sagas, Egla. Guided saga tours on offer. Hraunfossar waterfalls – streaming from the edges of the lava fields. Reykholt for historic value and Deildartunguhver for geothermal interest.
In Snæfellsnes peninsula: The Eldborg crater makes an interesting hike. Snæfellsjökull glacier with various glacier tours on offer. Arnarstapi – a fishing village in extraordinary surroundings and colourful bird life. The fishing villages on the northern coast of Snæfellsnes peninsula. The Breiðafjörður Bay - boat excursions amongst the many islands.

Day 2. The Northwest and Akureyri
Places of interest: Kolugljúfur canyon. Vatnsdalshólar - the site of the last execution in Iceland. The old turf church at Víðimýri. Skagafjörður district is renowned for its horse breeding. The farmhouse museum in Glaumbær. Akureyri town – the capital of the North.

Day 3. Lake Mývatn area and Jökulsárgljúfur National Park
Places of interest: The beautiful and historical Goðafoss (Waterfall of the Gods). Lake Mývatn itself – one of the pearls of Icelandic nature and rich in both bird and plant life. Höfði, a wooded headland in the lake. Dimmuborgir with its strange lava formations. The hot spring area in Námaskarð Pass with extraordinary colours produced by the sulphur in the ground. The crater Víti at Krafla. Visit Mývatn Nature Baths for a relaxing geothermal bath with view overlooking Lake Mývatn.
Places of interest: Húsavík town – the whale watching capital of the North. The Jökulsárgljúfur National Park includes: Ásbyrgi, allegedly the hoof mark of Odin’s horse, Sleipnir. Hljóðaklettar (Echo rocks) with their strange echoes and rock formations. The magnificent Dettifoss waterfall, the most powerful waterfall in Iceland. On the way to the East stop by the renovated farm Sænautasel and have a cup of coffee or tea with the very Icelandic baking, lummur.

Day 4. The East coast and fjords
Places of interest: Hallormsstaðar Woods – Iceland’s biggest forest and great outdoor area. The Lagarfljót River where the sea serpent “Lagarfljótsormur” allegedly lives. The East fjords with their small fishing villages quietly nesting underneath deep valleys and steep mountains once carved out by glaciers.
Petra´s mineral collection - a unique stone collection in Stöðvarfjörður village. Hvalnes light house – panoramic view over a black beach, dramatic mountains and the Atlantic ocean stretching as far as the eye can see.

Day 5. The Southeast
Places of interest: The glacial lagoon, Jökulsárlón – cruises on the lagoon amongst towering icebergs on offer (pre-booking not necessary). The Vatnajökull glacier – Europe´s lagest glacier and Icelands highest mountain, Hvannadalshnjúkur. Optional tours on offer in the area if booked in advance include various types of glacier tours and a hay wagon tour down to Cape Ingólfshöfði. Skaftafell National Park – a beautiful and unique place of natural wonder including Svartifoss waterfall.
Kirkjubæjarklaustur village – a small but important community centre. Dyrhólaey – a 120 m high cape with perpendicular cliffs teeming with bird life. Boat excursions available to Dyrhólaey if booked in advance. Sólheimajökull glacier tounge – walk on top of a glacier. The magnificent waterfall and the folk museum at Skógar. Have an evening dip in the outdoor swimming pool at Seljavellir located underneath Eyjafjallajökull glacier.

Day 6. The South – inland to the South coast.
Explore i.e. Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring area.
Places of interest: Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which you can walk behind. The historical Skálholt cathedral. Kerið, a 3000 year old explosion crater. Iceland’s famous circle of wonders “The Golden Circle” including Geysir hot spring area with its fabulous Strokkur spouting every 10 minutes or so, Gullfoss waterfall, not to be missed, and finally Þingvellir National Park – the site of the ancient parliament and a geological phenomena – an area perfect for walking around and exploring.
