Ammassalik is the largest town in East Greenland with about 1,400 residents. It lies just south of the Arctic Circle and boasts long hours of daylight in the summer and the splendor of the northern lights in the winter.
Ammassalik is only a 10-minute helicopter ride from Kulusuk, but this short flight is one of the most scenic expeditions imaginable as you cross the ice-filled sea separating these two mountainous islands.
Travelers stay at Hotel Ammassalik, which offers twin bedded rooms with private facilities, shower, WC,TV, restaurant, bar, souvenir shop, currency exchange, as well as information service. Upon arrival in Ammassalik you can choose from a number of exciting guided excursions.
Daily departure except on Sunday (there are no flights to/from Kulusuk on Sundays)
PLEASE NOTE: From September 8th - June 1st the flight schedule between Iceland and Greenland changes - flights are only operated on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It is therefore necessary to add one extra night in Ammassalik if you book the package during this time.
The Hotel Ammassalik will be undergoing renovations in the month of October 2012, during this time period the package will not be available.

A note about travel to Greenland
Greenland offers a somewhat different type of travel experience than you might expect. Its remote location and island status means that virtually all items must be imported; hence, even everyday items cost more than they do even in Iceland or Denmark (which Greenland is a part of).
Also, accommodations tend to be small in size (again, because of high cost of importing building materials), and service often is more relaxed than you will find elsewhere. Still, Greenland is a fascinating and breathtaking destination, and we’re confident that its amazing natural wonders will mitigate any minor inconveniences you may experience during your brief stay.
Please note: Travel in Greenland is independent travel without guidance, except for optional tours.
