Tour Description:

ATTENTION: Please note that there will be a change in departure time in 2012. This tour will depart Reykjavík at 08:00 and not at 09:00 as previously advertised.

The Reykjanes Peninsula tour offers an extreme variety of landscapes dotted with fissures, lava fields and geothermal activity. We depart from Reykjavík heading towards the community of Sandgerði, one of the country‘s major fishing points. The tour continues along the coast line through Miðnesheiði moor which rises up from the lowland. We will stop at the stone built church of Hvalneskirkja from the year 1887.

The journey proceeds through lava fields onwards to Sandvík where two of the earth‘s tectonic plate split.  At Sandvík you will get the opportunity to walk over a symbolic footbridge which crosses a fissure which  provides clear evidence of the rift between the European and the North American tectonic plates.

We head towards the coast for the lighthouse of Reykjanesviti, one of the oldest lighthouses in Iceland. Weather permitting you can  glimpse at the island of Eldey, which rises from ocean, and witnes the foamy waves beating up on the dark rocks. Close by is the country‘s largest mud pool, Gunnuhver, which will be our next stop. According to a legend a great ghost nicknamed Gunna caused great disturbance in the area until a priest set a trap for her and she fell into the 300°C hot spring. The area offers unique colours which will not disappoint the photographer.

The tour ends at the Blue Lagoon where you have four different options; a visit to the Blue Lagoon, transfer to Keflavík Airport, return back to Reykjavík or you could join the AH16 tour which will take you to Krýsuvík geothermal area and Kleifarvatn Lake before heading back to Reykjavík.

Transfers from the Blue Lagoon to Reykjavík are available at 12:00, 15:00, 7:15, 19:00 and 21:00

Transfers from the Blue Lagoon to Keflavík Airport are available at 12:00, 14:00 and 15:00

Very well organized, and our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us interesting informations about Icelandic culture and society during the trip. The weather was unfortunately not very nice but that was nobody's fault. The hot spring area was amazing. I didn't book the other tour (H16) leaving from the Blue Lagoon at 14:00 because, I thought, since the Blue Lagoon is very expensive, I'd rather prefer to spend there more time. But keep in mind that, especially if you are not in the weekend and you have an online reservation to speed up the queue, the time between 11:30 and 14:00 is actually enough to enjoy the Blue Lagoon (the water is so hot there that you won't spend more than, maybe, 1 hour in the pool). If you still prefer to stay at the Blue Lagoon, keep in mind that connecting buses to Reykjavìk leave at around 12:00, 15:00, 17:00, 19:00 and 21:00. It's just a pity that the tour starts so early in the morning, but I guess that was unavoidable in order to allow the connection between this and the H16 tour with enough time to see the Blue Lagoon.

We were surprised about the kindness of the persons in the central office of Reykjavik. We booked a tour to the Westman Islands and because of the strong winds and waves it was cancelled. At the office a young lady suggested us other tours and we chose the Reykjanes Peninsula. It was a part of Iceland we didn't see .( this was our third visit to Iceland, we come from Italy). The guide told us everything about the things we saw.For us it was interesting because the landscape was similiar to others seen in our previous tour. The weather was not good but in Iceland we know that it is so.
