AH51  Bonfire & Fireworks 31 Dec 2012 -
31 Dec 2012

Highlights:
  • Bonfire
  • Fireworks

Tour Description:

The Icelandic New Year's Eve is by many considered the most breathtaking New Year's celebration in the world. We offer a special tour where you will experience this celebration first-hand. You will be taken to enjoy the immersive celebration atmosphere.

Thousands of people attend community bonfires scattered throughout the different neighbourhoods in Reykjavík.

At midnight the atmosphere becomes highly intense due to the hundreds, even up to a thousand, tons of fireworks that are lit up and fired away. We will than stop at a desirable viewpoint to watch the fireworks and toast with a glass of sparkling wine while thousands of people all over the city are shooting up tons of fireworks, resulting in one of the world's most spectacular sights one can imagine.
Between the Bonfire and the Firework show we stop at a restaurant for a light refreshment.

The bonfire was pretty average although quite large, but the fireworks were wonderful-quite spectacular. The tour could have been a bit shorter-started a bit later perhaps.

This was truly a special tour, close to the Icelandic people and their New Year celebrations. Large warming bonfires and amazing fireworks welcomed the New Year 2012 in both a dignified and magnificent way. - Friendly and knowledgeable guide who told us a lot about Icelandic traditions and more. - In addition, good and sparkling champagne!

Because many people didn't understand much English and caused time loss when we left Bonfire, it would be nice if guide has number plate to show our bus number and time we needed to come back to bus.

Thank you for your feedback and comments. The buses were marked each with their number from 1 to 4 that night. The guides also gave clear instructions of how long each stop would be but on a night like this it is difficult to get everyone to comply. The language barrier can be difficult as well.
